The initiative globalgoals.hamburg makes the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) visible through murals in public spaces in Hamburg. The designs are created in collaboration with various people, organizations, and artists.

Murals

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

This mural for SDG 8 "Decent Work and Economic Growth" was created by artists LAPIZ (Hamburg) and Elmar Karla (Bremen) through an extensive consultation and research process. It was installed in July 2025.

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy

This design was created in collaboration with a course at FSG – Freie Schule für Gestaltung (Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg), led by illustrator and artist Gaby Bergmann. The mural was designed by Jonna Tuchtfeld and Erik Przkopanski and installed in December 2024.

SDG 2: Food Security

The mural for SDG 2 was developed in cooperation with the FoodUnfolded project, an initiative of the EU project EIT Food. The final version was created by graphic designer Ulrike Sommer. The mural was installed in January 2024.

 SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing

The basis for this mural on the theme "Good Health and Well-being" comes from works by students at the Vocational School for Medical Professions (Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg) and children from the Kindertreff at HausDrei (Hamburg-Altona). It was designed by Bettina Wistuba and installed in April 2023.

 
 

SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

This mural on sustainable consumption was created in spring 2022 with an art class (10th grade) from Marion Dönhoff Gymnasium. The concept and design are by Fine Engelbert. It is currently on display at the east exterior wall of KAUFLAND, Marktpassage 5, Hamburg-Neugraben.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Während der Corona-Pandemie entstand im Mai 2021 dieses Motiv in einem kompletten Online-Prozess. Es wurde gestaltet von Sophia Leipert, Nina Manz, Charlotte Niewerth und Anna Seum, einem Team von Studentinnen und Absolventinnen der HafencityUniversität Hamburg

This design was created in May 2021 during the Corona pandemic through a fully online process. It was designed by Sophia Leipert, Nina Manz, Charlotte Niewerth, and Anna Seum, a team of students and graduates from Hafencity University Hamburg.

SDG 13: Climate Action

Das Bild ist ein Ausschnitt eines SDG-Murals an einer Schule in Dar es Salaam/Tansania. Das Motiv wurde von Ronald Ssemaganda aus Kampala/Uganda gestaltet und trägt ein Zitat der ugandischen Klima-Aktivistin Vanessa Nakate. Es wurde im Juli 2020 in Hamburg installiert und hängt aktuell am KEBAB-Gebäude, Schomburgstraße 6, HH-Altona.

This image is a section of an at a school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The design was created by from Kampala, Uganda, and features a quote by Ugandan climate activist . It was installed in July 2020 in Hamburg and is currently displayed at the , Schomburgstraße 6, Hamburg-Altona.

SDG 5: Gender Equality

The mural on the theme "Equality – Gender Equality" was created in June 2019 in collaboration with the artists of the "Die Schlumper" studio collective, led by Anna Pongs-Laute. The design is based on a work by artist Bernhard Krebs.

SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation

This mural was designed and created by Nepalese mural artist Shradda Shrestha from Kathmandu, based on a conceptual idea by the Global Goals team. The project was carried out in cooperation with Viva con Agua e.V. and the Millerntor Gallery. The mural was installed in February 2018.

SDG 1: End Poverty

The first mural in the SDG mural series was created in spring 2017. The concept was developed collaboratively with Hamburg mural artist Eckart Keller and other participants, and the design was executed by the artist. The mural was installed one day before the Hamburg G20 Summit.

Our next mural is in preparation! We’ll soon reveal the theme and who is involved – stay tuned.

It will be installed at the end of 2025 at the KAROSTAR building, Neuer Kamp 32, 20357 Hamburg.
